I depict transformations from human to bird, from arm to wing, from male to female, from larva to dragonfly, from dream to knowledge. For years I have immersed myself in Ovid's Metamorphoses, and most of the pieces in Sea Changes take as a starting point Ovid's story of Ceyx and Alcyone. Through this story I explore moments of transformation itself, moments of chaos when all is in flux and new forms are born. Much of this magic takes place in the ocean, the primal waters from which life first emerged.

These pieces are about the processes of change in all of us. We take a leap, grow wings, escape one life, emerge into a new self.

My mixed media paintings are modern palimpsests, literally 'scraped again'. My applications include adding and removing paint and materials creating complex layerings, revealing earlier traces previously inscribed and transforming the dynamic through their interaction.

In my "Ghost Writing" series, I translate nature's encrypted messages in collage paintings of stones and trees. A word carved in the trunk of a tree gradually heals into a scar; a cover of time, new growth and a continuous wearing away. Similarly, moments of loss are transformed through the passage of time, memory and the accretion of experience.
